Meet Nelson Bento, an ultra runner used to run long distance trail races.

With 350km so far in kanimambo challenge, it looks like Nelson isn’t about to stop.
Let’s know how does he gets to run more than half the distance equivalent to the individual kanimambo goal in just one day!

In how many Run4Achild editions/challenges did you participate?
I’ve participated in two challenges so far.
Tell us about your personal experience in the Run4aChild initiative.
I’ve enjoyed it a lot, it has been a great experience!
How did you feel when completing a challenge?
I feel fulfilled knowing I’ve helped someone or a cause doing something I’m used to: run.
What is your biggest motivation to run and join this cause?
It really motivates me to know I am making a difference in someone’s life with my daily routine.
Would you recommend taking part in the initiative to anyone? Why?
Yes, half of my Run4aChild team where referred by me 🙂
What tips can you share to people that are about to start running?
You have to start slow, run less kilometers in the begin and increase the distance progressively each week. I suggest you to watch a great documentary on Netflix: ‘Lorena’, it’s short and inspiring!
What type of places do you prefere to run?
I prefere to run in trails in the middle of the nature. I do it for about 11 years.
Can you share your run routines? How do you prepare for a big race?
My routines include a week plan: I run on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. On Fridays I rest a bit and Saturdays and Sundays I do long workouts with the long distances races. On Monday i get to rest again, to recover from the trail challenges of the weekend.
Previously to a big race I add a healthier diet to the plan. It took me 5 weeks to prepare to my last big challenge.
Can you tell us how was your last big challenge ‘Trail Terras do Sicó‘?
I’ve ran 57km in 8hours and 15 minutes. You have to push and manage the effort, the food and hydratation. It was hard but it was my birthday and couldn’t be happier!
That was my gift to myself: running in the wild nature with my brother that belongs to the same Run4aChild team and knowing at the same time I was giving more and more km’s to the Kanimambo cause!
Will you join us in the current challenge?
Off corse yes!

Thank you Nelson for the effort and inspiration. Hope your words get to motivate more runners to push themselves: for their health and for the children.
