Run4aChild is back, it’s ongoing and is running fast!
WIT is partnering with Lighting Up Lives to help the children of Abéné, a small village on Senegal, to reduce their daily commute to school.
Lighting Up Lives aims to build resilient, thriving, and autonomous communities in West Africa by connecting changemakers with citizens in rural villages, inspiring and supporting local action to solve local problems.
Every single day hundreds of kids in Abéné take within 60 to 90 minutes to walk to school. With a bicycle it will take them 15 to 20 minutes. What a difference in their lives this could be! This can mean more time to sleep, more time with their family, more time for homework, less time in the beating sun, less exhaustion at school. Or in other words, this can mean better school results and more chance of leaving the village to continue their studies.
In this challenge the overall goal is to cover 120.000 km and if we reach that goal, we will provide 20 bicycles to help at least 20 children of Abéné to go to school. And for that we need your help! You can run, walk or use your bike to help us reach our goal! Please be aware that every 3 km cycled will be counted as 1 km running or walking.
