{"id":764,"date":"2022-02-02T16:02:11","date_gmt":"2022-02-02T16:02:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.run4achild.com\/blog\/?p=764"},"modified":"2025-08-18T08:50:21","modified_gmt":"2025-08-18T08:50:21","slug":"meet-aconeruq-our-chosen-ngo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.run4achild.com\/blog\/index.php\/2022\/02\/02\/meet-aconeruq-our-chosen-ngo\/","title":{"rendered":"Meet ACONERUQ, our chosen NGO!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-style-default\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1584\" height=\"396\" src=\"https:\/\/www.run4achild.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/Aconeruq-banner-01.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-769\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>First, we need to ask ourselves: <strong>Why Brazil?<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For Challenge Xod\u00f3, we are running for a special cause: to help children in Brazil.<br>We chose to support ACONERUQ (Associa\u00e7\u00e3o das Comunidades Negras Rurais Quilombolas do Maranh\u00e3o). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Who is ACONERUQ?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><strong>ACONERUQ<\/strong><\/strong> is a Brazilian, non-profit organization <strong>created on May 12 1996<\/strong>, representing the vast majority of Quilombolas. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What is a Quilombola? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A Quilombola is an Afro-Brazilian resident of Quilombo settlements first established by slaves in Brazil who escaped from slave plantations that existed up until the abolition of slavery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><strong>ACONERUQ<\/strong><\/strong> includes representatives of the Quilombola communities of <strong>23 states<\/strong>. The Quilombola movement is recognized as one of the <strong>most active agents of the black movement in Brazil<\/strong> and introduces a debate that seeks to strengthen the perspective that this country has a great ethnic plurality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ACONERUQ&#8217;s objectives are: <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The implementation of sustainable development projects;<\/li><li>Implementation of public policies for Quilombo communities;<\/li><li>Education that is consistent with the way of life in the Quilombos; <\/li><li>The autonomy and importance of Quilombola women and children;<\/li><li>Promotion of the good and fair use of their territory and natural resources. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Currently, there are many Quilombola families in a <strong>bad economic situation and a state of vulnerability,<\/strong> due to the worsening and l<strong>ong duration of the pandemic<\/strong>.
