Meet Caritas India, our chosen NGO

First, we need to ask ourselves: Why India?

Children’s health constitutes a significant part of the national disease burden of India. Environmental health problems such as pollution-related issues, challenges with water supply and sanitation are difficult to fix and unfortunately affect children greatly.

Many children in India miss vaccination and consequently contract infectious diseases that vaccines could have prevented. 40% of children in India experience malnutrition or stunted growth due to lack of access to healthy meals and many of them are homeless or orphans, especially now due to covid-19.

That is why Run4aChild decided to help India in this Summer Challenge. Continue reading to know more about our chosen NGO!

About Caritas India’s History

We chose Caritas India, which was founded in 1962. It is a member of Caritas confederation with more than 160 member organizations in over 200 countries.

“Caritas” is a Latin word meaning love and compassion. Caritas bases itself on human rights and also in social justice.

Why Caritas India?

Caritas India’s goal is to reduce human suffering, so it believes that there is a close relationship between poverty and the denial of freedom and human rights. Throughout the years, Caritas India has been remarkable in its response to social challenges in international and national levels. It serves the underprivileged sections of the society. The strategic role of Caritas India has gone beyond funding projects or hand-holding hundreds of development organisations. As a result, Caritas India is recognized as a leading NGO in poverty alleviation.

We are proud to partner with Caritas India for our “Asha Challenge”!
